The first camp of the season saw Sunridge athletes take on not one but mountains visiting both Lake Louise and Nakiska over two days. Athletes enjoyed some excellent early season conditions and took full advantage with drills and free skiing. Thanks to our coaches athletes quickly worked out the rust and were carving all around the resorts.

Location: Marmot Basin, Jasper, AB hosted by North Zone Clubs Sunridge Alpine Ski Team participated in the 40th anniversary of the North Zone Ski Clubs’ JJOs. The event included our Nancy Greene Ski League athletes in age categories: U6 (4&5 years old), U9 (6-8 years old), & U12 (9-11). Saturday, March 2nd races included U6 athletes participated in 4 fun runs on Schoolhouse. Both U9s & U12s was the Best of two runs. U9s competing in 2 Giant Slalom runs no Lower Dromedary while the U12s raced their 2 runs on Upper Dromedary. The fun didn’t stop there. Saturday nights were made for dance parties. The ROC hosted the first ever JJO Hombre Dance Party at the Jasper Recreation Center. We saw our kids bust some sick moves, catch some door prizes as well as do a pretty mean wall lean (and some dad’s too). Sunday, March 3rd all athletes participated in 1 timed run called the JJO Shootout. This timed run was an obstacle multi discipline on Dromedary. The U6 athletes started at Slow Poke Crossing, U9 started at Top of Tree Island, and the U12s start was Upper Dromedary. All athletes raced across the same finish line at Lower Dromedary. The JJO Shootout was an exciting race for both the athletes, but the volunteers and spectators. We can still hear the cow bells riding up the chair along the race run. Besides all the official race details our team bonded. Friendships were strengthened, limits were pushed, coaches challenged each other and our athletes.
