JOB POSTING: Athletic Director-Head Coach – Sunridge Alpine Ski Team
STATUS: Permanent Seasonal Salaried Position
STARTING DATE: Starting Immediately, or Spring/Summer 2023 based on Candidate availability
 
Job Overview:
Sunridge Ski Club, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is growing and seeking an Athletic Director/Head Coach to perform the following duties:
​
  • Preparation Program: Organize and execute dryland training programs, including: facilitating fitness testing/evaluation, book dryland training facilities and programs, maintain dryland training records, direct athlete goal setting with coaches. 

  • On Snow Training Program: Organize, execute, and direct the delivery of the Club’s overall on-snow programs including: establishing technical training directives for the club/coaches, maintain mountain/ski area relations, equipment recommendations, coordinate training groups, organize training camps, work with Alpine Chair in program development/scheduling, manage/book training space.
    • Candidate is expected to be active and on-snow during Club local training and events.

  • Competition Program: Be knowledgeable about appropriate local, national or international rules and regulations that govern tech, speed, and ski cross racing. Working with program coaches and coordinators, consult on race entries and calendar building.  Assist, advise, and guide Club coaches on race day coaching delivery.

  • Coaching Staff Recruitment & Development: Direct the professional development and Licensing of Club coaches; facilitate on and off hill coaching seminars, manage and select Coaching staff, assign staff to events.  Work with Program Coordinators on Coach travel logistics.

  • Administration & Leadership: Maintain regular communication with key individuals and groups, submit and manage Club expense reporting, and attend required meetings.  Develop and distribute race and training event information packets. Communicate with parent stakeholders on vision and direction. Participate and communicate in multi-club alliance programs.

Structure:

  • Position will report directly to the Alpine Chair of the Club Board of Directors.
  • All other Club coaches report to the Athletic Director/Head Coach position.
  • “Full-Time” equivalent salary is offered in winter months.
  • “Part-time/Retainer” salary is offered in summer months.
  • Candidate is expected to travel on average of 2 trips per month in winter season with various Programs.
  • Employer Extended Health/Dental Benefit Package.
  • Position can be done while maintaining other Part-Time work in Winter, and Full-Time in Summer.

Preferred Attributes, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • CSC Development Level preferred but not required to start.
  • Min 2-4 years of previous coaching experience.
  • Located in the Edmonton area. 
  • Positive and outgoing personality.
  • Well organized with good communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian sport and ski racing system.
  • Physically fit for service including heavy lifting, skiing, and rigorous physical activity in winter high alpine environments.
  • If under 25 years old, a Class 4 Driver’s License (or willingness to get) with an enviable driving record, and willingness to drive Club vans.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
